Burberry

God save the queen

Project

A tale of rebellion

Since its creation in 1856, Burberry has been synonymous with British elegance and innovation; from the creation of the trench coat, to the invention of the famous tartan pattern, and the trench coat.

From its beginnings, it has left a great mark on the fashion world, and in recent years its designs have been redefined with a more youthful and rebellious look.

Burberry's identity is centered on being British; the stories that make up the culture of the country work as inspiration in each of its collections.

For the collection, proposed for the brand as a university project, we had to find a British story that would help us represent the brand's new edgy identity. To convey this feeling, we looked for British music of the same realm, and nothing says edgy better than punk.

However, we also wanted to represent the British elegance so characteristic of the brand, and who is England’s most iconic posh woman? None other than Queen Elizabeth II herself.

Having researched this, we decided to use punk's confrontation with the British monarchy in the seventies as a source of inspiration for the collection.

Iconic colors and patterns were used, as well as the characteristic elements of the Queen, such as pleated skirts and pastel colors.

Nevertheless, they are re-signified with punk elements, to represent the struggle between both ideologies.

For the capsule collection, we decided to collaborate with a streetwear brand. In keeping with the theme of British identity, we decided to join forces with Palace, created by a young Londoner in the early '00s.

The intention was to work with typologies of the streetwear category, combining them with elements and garments typical of Burberry. Items such as the trench coat, tailored jackets and trousers are re-imagined, and fused with streetwear garments, such as bomber jackets and hoodies.

Following the theme of the previous collection, this capsule collection takes inspiration from the urban Skate punk tribe that emerged in the 90s.
